The Last Straw was perhaps one of Karen's favorite all-time Illinois bands EVER! Each member made such a unique contribution, and together they created a sound that ranged from "crabgrass" to country-punk.

Paul was a major influence on Karen's music career. In 1989, he bought her 3 songs in a recording studio as a Christmas present. The collaboration between Karen and the Last Straw was influential, to say the least.
